LOIE FULLER: RESEARCH

OLA MACIEJEWSKA

© Martin Argyroglo

In Loie Fuller: Research, Ola Maciejewska continues her research into this historic dance figure. Focusing on the famous garment that was the key to Loie Fuller’s serpentine dances, she explores the power of non-human objects in contact with bodies. With this choice, she proposes to step away from anthropocentrism, where, like a sculptor with his Pygmalion, she lets herself be overwhelmed by the object, or rather by what emerges from this bilateral relationship.

Born in Poland and currently based in Paris, Ola Maciejewska is a choreographer and performer who graduated from Utrecht University in 2012 with a master’s degree in dance studies. In 2011, during her training, she created the performance LOIE FULLER: Research, which was presented in 2015 at the inauguration of the CND (Centre National de la Danse) in Pantin, and later in Switzerland, Spain, Canada, Portugal and several times in the Netherlands. In the fall of 2015, Ola Maciejewska created BOMBYX MORI at the Ménagerie de Verre in Paris, as part of the festival Les Inaccoutumés. It was later presented at the Kaaitheater, the Rotterdamse Schouwburg, the Veem Huis Performance, the Musée d’art contemporain de Serralves and at ImPulsTanz in Vienna.

From 2016 to 2018 Ola Maciejewska was an associate artist at the Centre chorégraphique national de Caen, and in the fall of 2017, her solo LOIE FULLER: Research AND COSMOPOL was presented at the Lyon Dance Biennale.

In 2018 Ola Maciejewska presented her latest creation, DANCE CONCERT, for the first time at the National Taichung Theatre in Taiwan. It was later presented in the fall of 2018 at the Centre Pompidou as part of the autumn festival.
