Godecharle Competition 2019
Every two years, the Commission des Fondations de Bourses d’Etudes du Brabant manage a competition to promote the training of young artists from Belgian or from EU member state living in Belgium. This competition is intended for 3 disciplines: sculpture, painting and architecture. The winners each of the three artistic disciplines receive a grant of 5,000 euros for a two-year period. In accordance with the founder's wishes, they must allocate this sum to study and research trips abroad.
The competition comprises two rounds:
1. During the first, qualifying round, the jury assesses the works freely submitted by the participants and selects 12 candidates for the final round
2. The second round consists in treating a single theme for all competitors in isolation (“en loge”) for a maximum of 5 days. This year's theme is: EMERGENCY. This round is difficult and of a high level because it demands the production of high-quality work within a limited time frame and this, without having recourse to exterior opinions.
This year, the 12 artists will be housed in KANAL and, at the end, they will exhibit their work/creation (from March 27 to April 7 inclusive).
Finally, at the beginning of April, each artist will have to defend his project before a jury. The results will be announced on May 9 at 4pm at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels where the work of the 3 lucky winners will be exhibited (from May 10 to 18, 2019).
