Outdoors
This event ran on 07.06.2026. But wait, there's always more at Kanal! Check out the calendar.
While outlying areas often benefit from generous gardens bordered by lush hedges, dense urban centres tend to offer more limited outdoor spaces, frequently enclosed by walls of varying heights. In such contexts, the constraints of the site become an invitation to creativity for landscape architects.

In this case, the slope of Rue Creuse, just below Chaussée d’Haecht, restricts the development of the outdoor space to the first level of the house. By conceiving this area as an extension of the interior, landscape architect Marguerite Ferry has created a true open-air living room. With a subtle Japanese influence reflecting the owner’s travels, this young garden features a maple tree carefully aligned with Saint-Servais church. Wisteria and clematis climb the slopes, Hakonechloa grasses structure the terrace, and Japanese anemones bring autumnal colour to the beds. Take the time to explore the singular character of Rue Creuse itself—a winding, historic street already recorded on a map by Jacques de Deventer between 1550 and 1565. Running parallel to Avenue Louis Bertrand, it reveals a rich and unexpected architectural patchwork.
