Near the Charleroi–Brussels Canal, the ZIN project is transforming the former World Trade Center towers in the northern part of the city. The WTC I and II towers, originally designed in the 1970s, have been rehabilitated and converted into a mixed-use complex combining offices, apartments, a hotel, shops and sports facilities. Its central section houses the Marie-Elisabeth Belpaire building, now the main headquarters of the Flemish government administration – Vlaamse Overheid.

As part of this redevelopment, Plant en Houtgoed designed the green spaces and planting strategies across the entire site, both within the buildings and in the surrounding public areas. From a 12-metre-high greenhouse to a rooftop garden 90 metres above ground, from interior planting on office floors to a green façade structure, these elements form a mosaic of habitats that strengthen and extend the connection with the public realm. Integrated into the scale of the building, the greenhouse offers a sheltered, cooling environment. Through a guided tour with Garden Tales, discover how this project proposes a distinctive response to Brussels’ climate challenges.
