A member of the KANAL-team will take you on a tour of the site and the iconic showroom for a sneak peek behind the scenes. As you explore the cavernous spaces, you'll also discover sound installations by Lisa Matthys and the Ictus ensemble.
The Museum of Innocence

What do children see when they hear the word ‘museum’? What do concepts like art, collection and beauty mean to them? Lisa Matthys put these questions to the pupils of De Droomboom Elementary School in Laeken. The outcome of this participatory project builds towards a collection: not a physical collection, but a collection you can experience through a soundscape of children's voices. The multi-speaker installation, which was created with sound artist Arno Boey, is an integral part of the tour. It quite literally lets you hear how kids from Brussels envision their future, imaginary museum. The soundscape mingles voices, sounds, noises and wishes as they point towards a chalk floor plan outlining the children's dream museum.

Ictus
Musicians from Ictus provide an adventurous confrontation between architecture, music and sound. At an intersection, a street musician plays a duet with his boombox. The sound of aluminium rods blends with his voice, saxophone and accordion. Voices sounding in the distances gradually form harmonies. The melody is construed and amplified by the acoustic potential of the large space, but also by your own hearing.

First weekend on the occasion of the Brussels Heritage Days
The visit will take place in complete safety and is accessible to anyone in average physical condition. Children are welcome, provided they are accompanied by a parent or responsible adult. Safety shoes and boots will be available on site, but feel free to bring your own pair of sturdy (hiking) boots! As we do not have children's safety shoes, you'll need to bring your own.
