Imane Guemssy

Imane Guemssy is one of the first woman practitioners of traditional Moroccan Gnawa music. With her powerful voice and the guembri, the typical three-stringed bass lute, she puts a contemporary spin – and sound – on an age-old tradition. During an intimate concert, she braids traditional rhythms and melodies with modern influences while remaining true to the venerable spirit of Gnawa.
