Research in Residence
Launched in 2022, the Research in Residence programme was set up to activate the collections from alternative, interdisciplinary perspectives, beyond their strictly architectural-historical value. Academics, architects and artists are now regular users of the collections.
Research in Residence has also spawned its own series of exhibitions.
- Artist Vincent Meessen kicked off the programme with After / D’après / Na (2022), where a drawing of the Labarre cottage by architect Léon Sneyers became the starting point for a personal investigation into architecture, ecology and heritage.
- In Unworlding CUBEX (2023), architect Anna Puigjaner analysed and reimagined the standardised kitchen system designed by Louis Herman De Koninck, proposing a more collective and inclusive model of domestic and urban life.
- As an academic researcher, Stefaan Vervoort translated years of scholarship into the exhibition Marcel Broodthaers – The Architect is Absent (2025). The project revealed how Broodthaers’ poetry, writings and early works anticipated the emergence of built heritage activism in Brussels during the demolition of Victor Horta’s Volkshuis.
