What do human rights still mean when they are put to the test by our contemporary realities? How can we actively claim, defend and reinvent them? In dialogue with Banu Cennetoğlu's exhibition right?, La Voix des Sans-Papiers Bruxelles offers a series of eight workshops on drawing, writing and reflection centred on human rights. The workshops take as their starting point the Mandé Charter, a political constitution drafted in the early 13th century during the founding of the Mali Empire by Soundiata Keïta, the historic ruler who unified the Mandé kingdoms. The Mandé Charter is one of the oldest known declarations of human rights and affirms the universal principles of freedom, dignity, solidarity and collective responsibility.
