Call for participants – Koeur Kanal
What if your voice became part of a shared moment that will resonate through Brussels?
In November 2026, the festive opening of Kanal will be highlighted by unique performances from a choir of over 300 people. In the spring of 2026, Brussels residents, artists, choir conductors and participants gathered on different occasions to brainstorm, compose and make sweet music together. This initial, creative phase yielded four original songs. And Koeur Kanal continues to beat strong.
Whether you’re already in a choir or have never sung in a group before, you’re very welcome to join this grand adventure, to learn and rehearse the four songs, and to sing your heart out during the two concerts that will mark the opening of Kanal.
No musical experience is required. All you need is a desire to sing, to meet other people and to be part of a unique and shared experience.
On Wednesday 30 September 2026, all participants and partner choirs will get together at La Bellone.
During this evening, you’ll have the opportunity to get acquainted with the four Koeur Kanal songs, to meet the artists and the other choir members, and to sing together for the very first time.

If you're already singing in a participating choir, you can practise the songs during its rehearsals. If you’re not yet a member of a choir, you can simply join a new group and take part in the rehearsals organised by the various choirs in Brussels. You can choose the locations and times yourself, depending on your availability.
Next, everyone will gather in Kanal for the dress rehearsals:

- Tuesday 24 November 2026, 17:00–22:00
The Koeur Kanal choir will perform twice in Kanal:
Wednesday 25 November 2026 at 18:00
Sunday 29 November 2026 at 16:30
To ensure that everyone can enjoy this one-of-kind experience to the fullest, we ask that participants be available for the (dress) rehearsals and the two concerts.
Koeur Kanal welcomes everyone aged 18 and up.
You can take part:
- individually, by joining the new Koeur Kanal choir;
- as a member of a partner choir;
- if you have already taken part in the creative workshops that were organised in the spring of 2026.
You don’t need to be able to read sheet music, and no singing experience is required. The songs and teaching materials are made freely available so that everyone can explore and practise them.
All musical styles and voices are welcome!
Koeur Kanal is a participatory project organised by Kanal, in collaboration with artists, choirs and conductors, and different cultural partners from Brussels.
The four Koeur Kanal songs were created in collaboration with Meskerem Mees, Shama Bongo, Sarah Carlier, François Vaiana, Leander Moens, Darren Roshier and the 60 people who took part in the project’s initial creative phase.
