"Adapt your principles to the circumstances."
"We are many, but you already knew that."

Just before the opening of the exhibition KANAL BRUT (2018–2019), Ariane Loze filmed L'Archipel du moi in the abandoned spaces of the former Citroën garage. In the video, she takes on all the parts – from director and camera operator to editor and performer – and wonders what it means to compile a series or collection. Loze compares human memory to a museum collection or collecting different car models. Experiences accumulate and arrange themselves as in a collection, including negative experiences that gain value through resilience. Loze makes full use of the cavernous space to bring the characters' different quests and desires to life.

L'Archipel du moi offers a rare glimpse into the showroom, the body shops and other spaces of the garage before their renovation, making it a unique archive document. The work is part of a series of videos that Loze made independently. Each video is closely linked to its setting and experiments with different film codes and genres, from film noir to science fiction. In this way, the artist takes a critical look at how our social lives are structured.
