"It is not anger that prevents the co-operation between whites and blacks, men and women, or different social classes, but the refusal to listen to that anger. I translate this anger into the visual." Saddie Choua

Am I The Only One Who Is Like Me? is the fifth episode in Saddie Choua's ongoing "soap opera" The Chouas, which features her own family. In this episode, she follows her grandfather, who worked in a garage for 50 years. She connects his story to The Bluest Eye, the debut novel of writer and Nobel Prize winner Toni Morrison, about the profound impact of racism on the identity of a young black girl in 1940s Ohio. The film shows archive footage of the Citroën garage and other film and television clips. Choua cleverly blends autobiographical and fictional elements with personal and political reflections. At the same time, she asks pressing questions about herself and about hierarchical systems and the human urge for power and dominance.
