Jos de Gruyter and Harald Thys live and work in Brussels. They have been a duo since the 1980s. They studied at Sint-Lukas in Brussels. the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam (De Gruyter) and the Jan van Eyck Academie in Maastricht (Thys). Using videos, installations, drawings, sculptures, performances and photography, they create tragicomic portraits of what it means to be human. Their protagonists are often imaginary characters that are portrayed by dolls, stuffed toys and non-professional actors.
