Julien Meert lives and works in Brussels, where he studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts and La Cambre. His artwork includes paintings, drawings, collages, videos and music, combining autobiographical elements and cultural references from the 1980-90s. He uses analogue materials as well as graffiti, film and arcade games. Although his art is full of bright colours and playful imagery, Meert does not shy away from heavy themes like inner conflict, loneliness and existential malaise. His seemingly naive work is at once alienating, personal, layered and complex.
