Mekhitar Garabedian studied at LUCA, School of Arts, in Brussels and School of Arts Ghent, and lives and works in Antwerp. His work focuses on migration and its impact on culture and identity, often playing on the humour and poetry he finds between languages, cultures and histories. Just as his personal diasporic history is layered, his work echoes with a multiplicity of references to literature, music, philosophy and visual arts. Starting from his Syrian-Armenian background, he uses drawings, videos, neons, photos, installations and books to examine how language and culture help determine one's identity.
