"Engaging with art is exactly what we need to stay awake somehow. Our perception doesn't just want to settle into the familiar. It also wants to be interrupted, to be exposed to something different, another influence we are not even aware of. Something that's actually right in front of us that we just don't see." Suchan Kinoshita, Glaubst Du an Kunst? Center for Literature

In 2017, Suchan Kinoshita entered an art call for new pedestrian zone of the Quai du Commerce in Brussels. Inspired by the renovation works in her own home, she proposed to install floor heating underneath the public walkway. Due of a procedural error, however, her proposal was not retained. The following year, however, the artist was invited to Kanal to follow through on her idea.

Proposition d'en face. Public floor heating makes up a square measuring two by two metres. A series of coiled tubes are laid out on the footway in the public space, not far from the showroom. The tubes are connected to the building's technical room by a system of pipes that run under the pavement and the windows of the former garage. Outside, the surface of the heated area is marked simply by a blue stone motif, emitting a warm glow.
