Teucrium for Man

"Call me a ghostbuster, a shaman or an exorcist in training, what matters is that I do not focus on the study of rituals, certain cultures or iconographies. I want to learn how I can help people deal with trauma and demons." Danai Anesiadou in Hart, 2023.

Man is a life-sized representation of an idealised male silhouette. The work brings together different interests of Danai Anesiadou, such as the body and identity, performance and film, our emotional relationship to objects, sciences that are considered occult and shapeshifting.

Man is part of a series of orgonite sculptures Danai Anesiadou made in 2023 for her solo exhibition D POSSESSIONS in WIELS. Typically, an orgonite is a pyramid-shaped energetic instrument that is made of resins, metals and crystals. According to the teachings of psychoanalyst Wilhelm Reich, it can transform energies and neutralise electromagnetic frequencies. The orgonite sculptures of Anesiadou contain personal belongings, recycled metal shavings, epoxy and crystals.
