Hamedine Kane
Hamedine Kane is an artist and filmmaker who divides his time between Brussels, Dakar and Paris. Originally trained as a librarian, he came to Europe from Mauritania in 2004. His art is deeply rooted in his migration experience and includes film, photography, installations, performance, drawing and woodcutting. Kane explores political, social and cultural themes that continue to shape post-colonial Africa, with a keen focus on exile, displacement and systemic criticism. His work raises questions about collective memory, national heritage and decolonisation. Central to his work is the concept of Afro-utopianism, which originates in African Diaspora literature on socio-political activism.
