The Citroën garage – a modernist gem in concrete, steel and glass – has been a landmark in the Brussels cityscape since 1933. In 2015, the Brussels-Capital Region acquired the building to house a long-anticipated museum for modern and contemporary art, thereby adding a new chapter to its rich history.

In 2017, architectural firm Atelier Kanal (EM2N, noArchitecten and Sergison Bates architects) began the painstaking work of renovating and transforming the iconic garage into the capital’s dynamic new meeting place for art and creativity. The building is now ready for its new role as a cultural flagship.

This guided tour introduces visitors to an exceptional site where history, architecture, and urban development combine. You will learn about the original design, the recent renovation, and the architectural heritage of the towering garage. The tour, which will also look in detail at the social role played by the building through the decades, is aimed at a broad public, from students and architecture fans to curious city dwellers.

Kanal wants to give you and your group the best possible experience and works to accommodate everyone’s needs during the guided tours. At the entrance, mediators will be happy to assist you, and here you will also find folding stools, wheelchairs, and noise-cancelling headphones. During the tours, voice amplifiers and other tools are used by all the guides as standard. Details on accessibility can be found on the accessibility page.
