"The project originated in Castellote, a town with many fishermen and a large fishing industry. We started observing the town, the small everyday things, looking at them through cartoon eyes.” Simona Denicolai at Casino Luxembourg, 2011.
A dream called macba, moca, moma, etc. is an installation that revolves around a fictional documentary film. The film explores the economic circuit of the fishing industry, following the fish from the sea to our plate and back again. The documentary also poses serious questions about the actual work of fishing and the pollution of our oceans, while an upbeat soundtrack plays in the background.
In addition to the film, the installation incorporates about a hundred objects including plastic waste collected during the shoot, large posters on wooden structures and the supplement of a Spanish newspaper announcing the premiere of the work in 2010. For both the film and the installation, the artists drew inspiration from the creative process and audiovisual language of cartoons.
The tongue-in-cheek title – a poetic alliteration – refers to museum acronyms, the commonly used and trendy-sounding abbreviations of their names.
