Outsiders: Marwan Kaabour

Kiosk Radio x Kanal

A collage of vintage photos and illustrations featuring people in various poses, costumes, and cultural attire, blending black-and-white and colourful images with diverse expressions.

Kanal is not only a building a museum, but also a sound. Online community radio Kiosk proved the perfect partner to help broadcast it into Brussels and beyond. For the Outsiders series, once a month on Sunday mornings, Kanal invites over an artist for a one-hour set: a new composition, a mix, an interview.

Following his passage at the Brussels Ass Book Fair in 2024, Lebanese-born, London-based artist, designer and writer Marwan Kaabour returns to Kanal to showcase the sonic world of Takweer – the extensive project in which Kaabour explores queer narratives across Arab history and popular culture.

Kaabour's set opens with a song by his father, Ahmad Kaabour, a prominent left-wing musician in the region. Lakoum A'oud deals with the death of Jesus Christ, the principles he lived by and the idea of returning to the land – particularly poignant themes in light of the genocide in Palestine, Jesus' native land.
