A solo dance performance driven by the pulsating rhythms of ritual dances.
Pulse(s) in Situ is an adapted version of the 2018 dance solo Pulse(s) for non-theatrical spaces. Filipe Lourenço created amongst others a version op maat for the Medina, Tunis’s old city centre. Argentine, Touareg, and Alawi ritual dances from Lourenço's ancestral cultures are the starting point. In a sober and musical choreography, he strips the dances of their decoration until only the essence remains: the pulsating rhythm that underlies their ceremonial power.
Dancer, choreographer, and musician Filipe Lourenço has been studying Arab- Andalusian music and traditional Maghreb dance since he was a young boy. He works regularly for various contemporary choreographers, including Boris Charmatz and Christian Rizzo. In 2014 he established the Filipe Lourenço/Plan-K company and produced his first personal creations, including Pulse(s) on which Pulse(s) in Situ is based.
