Ambient night

Kanal has decided to pay tribute to the genre "ambient" over the course of an entire night. From 18:00 until 23:00, the Brussels collective Basic Moves will manage the soundscape on the terrace. At 23:00 it will be time for an exceptional concert by Gas, the alias of the German Wolfgang Voigt, a fan of long, mind-blowing and shamanic tracks (a first in Brussels!).

A co-founder of the Kompakt label in 1998, Wolfgang Voigt gave up the dance floor when he launched Gas so as to pursue a certain idea of Rhenish mysticism. Inspired by experiences under LSD in the Black Forest, his continuous ode to nature and its mysteries (six albums since 1996) is mind-blowing and imposing, so repetitive that it induces a state of hypnosis and a sense of disorientation. A sensory experience in itself, which inspires images of majestic dawns and of being lost in the forest on cold moonlit nights, as illustrated by projections on a giant screen. ‘Ambient’ music that’s neither dark nor chill, but always totally psychedelic, in its primary and most noble sense, i.e. shamanic.

Signals transmitted through the ether, discreet background music, an ocean of information … From Erik Satie to Gas via Debussy and Brian Eno, ambient music and its ancestors have long appealed to lovers of sound experiments and musical rule-breaking.
