MEANWHILE
GAETAN RUSQUET
Three performers patiently erect a construction. Their gestures are methodical and the stage, architectural model or installation, takes shape in the image of a city. Ignoring the principles of stability and scale, the performers have to face the annihilation of their undertaking. Sound masses intensify until the space starts vibrating. The structure crumbles and the bodies become powerless. The threat of a collapse grows more concrete. The raw materiality of the setting, the physical noise and the unstoppable gestural vocabulary ensure that Meanwhile is an apocalyptic show that materializes the passage of time and the relation between humankind and its environment.
Gaëtan Rusquet (b. 1984) lives and works in Brussels. He studied applied arts at ENSAAMA in Paris, followed by scenography and performance studies at ENSAV La Cambre in Brussels. He works as a performance artist and performer, and has been involved, either as a leader or collaborator, in projects in the fields of performance, dance, theatre and visual arts. His artistic work often focuses on the relation between body and space through a medium and the related need for movement. Within his experiences, he is driven by the desire to share a visual and performance experience with an audience/witness. His work has been shown at the Trouble Festival (BE), ImPulsTanz (AT), MDT Stockholm (SE), Theater Avantgarden (NO), Accionmad (ES), FRAC Lorraine (FR), Kaaitheater (BE), Palais de Tokyo (FR) and Homonovus festival (LV), among others.
