SLEEP IN NIGHT

Cellist Jean-Paul Dessy will be in charge of introducing the sleep-in reserved for 100 lucky participants who will get the opportunity to spend the night at Kanal and literally sleep there. Wake-up will be followed by yoga and breakfast. All this set to a discreet soundtrack – ambient music of course.

Jean-Paul Dessy

Both a composer (renowned in particular for his requiems conceived in close collaboration with philosopher Jean-Yves Leloup) and the conductor of the Musiques Nouvelles ensemble, Jean-Paul Dessy has conducted more than 120 world premieres and recorded more than 50 albums of contemporary classical music. His particular focus is on the sacred, the liturgy, ‘instrumental practice as a means of meditation’. But he is familiar with rock and electro too. Armed with his cello, he will have the indelicate task of ‘driving out’ the audience at the closing of the Ambient Night and of ‘putting to sleep’ the lucky few who will spend the night at the museum – nice and gently.

Signals transmitted through the ether, discreet background music, an ocean of information … From Erik Satie to Gas via Debussy and Brian Eno, ambient music and its ancestors have long appealed to lovers of sound experiments and musical rule-breaking.
