Raffaella Crispino

Born in 1979 in Naples, Italy.

Raffaela Crispino lives and works in Brussels. She obtained a Master's degree in Visual Arts from the IUAV University of Venice in 2007. Between 2005 and 2010, she took part in several artistic residencies, notably at the CCA-Kitakyushu in Japan (2008-2009), in Romania and at the JCVA in Israel (2010). In Israel, her work was presented at the CCA in Tel Aviv in collaboration with the Museo Madre in Naples (2009) and she created a permanent installation in the public space as part of the Bat-Yam Biennale (2010).

These journeys and the encounters they bring nourish her work. At the heart of the social and political issues of each country, she questions the condition of the local inhabitants, but also the ambiguities of displacement and her own position as a foreigner. She develops her artistic practice through multiple media: photography, video art, installation and performance.

Solo exhibitions include Tokyo - San Francisco at Galerie Super Dakota in Brussels (2016), Kasper Bosmans c/o Raffaella Crispino, an alternate correspondence at 1/9unosunove in Rome (2015), HISK Open Studio at HISK in Ghent (2013) and Weather Forecast at L'Ozio in Amsterdam (2013). In 2018, she took part in the 6th Thessaloniki Biennial in Greece. She won the Prix Médiatine in 2013, an award given each year to Belgian or Belgian-resident visual artists.
