Luna Mahoux studied at ENSAV-La Cambre in Brussels, the Ecole Nationale Supérieure d'Arts in Paris-Clergy and Le Fresnoy in Tourcoing. Her film The Other Queen of Memphis was selected for the competition of Cinéma du Réel in the Centre Pompidou in Paris. In her work, she focuses on archives around Black culture, particularly around music and around communities she met on her research trips to the US. Inspired by artist Hito Steyerl's theories on the "Poor Image", Mahoux hunts for images on the internet and in real life. She uses pixelated images and archives as tools to render invisible lives visible. At a time when white culture freely appropriates elements from black culture, Mahoux seeks forms of resistance and self-definition to reclaim this identity.
