Eclipse Ensemble
"I’m interested in what escapes me. Not to stop it from escaping, but to experience the elusive." Ann Veronica Janssens in Experienced, 2009.
Between 2006 and 2019, Ann Veronica Janssens travelled around the world to film eight total solar eclipses. During this rare natural phenomenon, which can last several minutes, the moon passes in front of the sun, casting its deepest shadow along a narrow strip of the earth’s surface. In this "path of totality", the earth is cloaked in complete darkness and a fiery halo can be seen around the moon.
In the immersive Eclipse Ensemble, short and hypnotic sequences of eclipses are projected into a dark space. To Janssens, a solar eclipse is a marvel, a riveting experience of light on a cosmic scale, at once dazzling and gloomy.
