Rehearsing the museum

As the building of Kanal takes shape, new elements are emerging every day. The rooftop morphing into a sun-drenched terrace; the cavernous galleries and public spaces, echoing with the murmurs of artists visiting the site; the library, workshops and bakery, burgeoning and blossoming, slowly coming into their own. The original colours of the garage interior have been lovingly restored. Glass façade and wall-to-wall ceilings? About 80 percent there. As the museum builds momentum, so does its team, working hard to tune up the programme for the opening and beyond. And so, piece by piece and beat by beat, one step at a time, the building and its contents are coming together. Working with artists, neighbours, local associations, schools, stakeholders and institutional partners, Kanal is dreaming big, envisioning a bold future for this little slice of Brussels by the canal, (over)flowing with art and imagination.
