Tour (90 min)
Historical critique
Together with Belgik MoJaik, an association promoting cultural diversity and civic education, pupils visit the exhibition An infinite woman, examining images and narratives linked to Belgian colonial history. What do these works reveal about passed-down stories, and about the ways in which images are produced, circulated and interpreted? Through archives, paintings and photographs, pupils analyse, compare and question these materials, developing a critical and nuanced understanding of their representation.
Workshop (90 min)
Delphine Buysse, artist and researcher at the Cheikh Anta Diop Institute in Dakar, leads a creative session in which pupils collect their interpretations of the exhibition and turn them into a fanzine. This independent, handcrafted format moves beyond traditional publishing frameworks and allows for more creative freedom. Pupils reinterpret narratives and explore perspectives beyond dominant viewpoints. Each choice of image, text and layout becomes a way of understanding how narratives are constructed and communicated.
Participants experiment with collective expression through the creation of a fanzine printed on site.
This tour and workshop are based on the exhibition An infinite woman, which revisits the circulation of the image of Mangbetu women as a colonial symbol, and its subversion by artists of African descent who have reappropriated it.
