Zen For Film

15/10/202018/10/2020

Zen for Film, a creation of absolute simplicity, is a major work created by Nam June Paik in between his participation in Fluxus and his work with TV, which marked the birth of art video.  Somewhere between an event and a Zen garden this film is made up of unexposed film runs through a projector on an endless loop, gradually accumulating dust and scratches.  John Cage’s Silence, the theory of information or the theatre of shades are all paths that enable one to approach Zen for Film and to follow the repercussions thereof in a wide range of contemporary works.

A Tribute to John Cage

15/10/202018/10/2020

A Tribute to John Cage is Paik's homage to avant-garde composer John Cage. A major figure in contemporary art and music, Cage was one of the primary influences on Paik's work, as well as his friend and frequent collaborator. In this multifaceted portrait, Paik creates a pastiche of Cage's performances and anecdotes, interviews with friends and colleagues, and examples of Paik's participatory music and television works that parallel Cage's strategies and concerns.

Fluxfilm

04/02/202128/02/2021

The Fluxus group of artists, poets, composers and film makers are the self-proclaimed heirs of the anti-art streams of thought first introduced by Dada at the start of the 20th century. Using film as their medium of choice (“art by the metre”), they seek to fully dissolve the borders between art and life.

RENÉ HEYVAERT

26/06/201927/06/2019

Heyvaert remained unknown for most of his life. Nevertheless, after his death in 1984, his work had a posthumous recognition by a fringe of the art world, and the sharp but marginal critics. Since then, the confidential heritage of the artist and architect is cherished by a small circle of initiates. Recently, a new form of notoriety was finally granted - among others, by an ambitious retrospective at the M Museum of Leuven and by several publications that interrogate a singular facet of the character and its work that intertwines with his personal history.
