Between Future and Dust
Kinshasa (N)tóngá
23/09/2022 — 20/11/2022
Kinshasa (N)tóngá presents a unique vision of the Congolese capital, its development, and its urban structure. (N)tóngá means “needle” or “construction site” in Lingala and therefore refers to the informal course that characterises Kinshasa's evolution to date. The impact of colonialism and the influence it has had on the architecture of the third largest city on the African continent are the focus of the exhibition.

Entre futur et poussière
Kinshasa-(N)tonga
22/03/2022 — 22/04/2022
This project presents a confrontation between the rigid grid layout designed for the city and the human aspect and the fluid sensations therein; it is a combination of a multitude of fantasies around Kinshasa, a megalopolis of over ten million inhabitants. Kinshasa is a vast, sprawling city, often labelled as individualistic due to its SAPEUR (Dandy) character that has been built up in successive layers over several centuries.

The Act of Breathing

12/05/2022 — 31/07/2022
The Act of Breathing is based on the poem L'Acte de Réspirer, by Congolese writer and poet Sony Labou Tansi and explores the breath - the repetitive and instinctive force that is also a necessity. As Labou Tansi reveals, the breath can also be used as a tool for political resistance, when even the right to breathe must be wilfully preserved.
