A Invenção da Maldade - Marcelo Evelin

10/05/201911/05/2019

Brazilian choreographer, researcher and performer Marcelo Evelin is a prominent name in the field of contemporary dance. His latest creation came into being in a former warehouse in his hometown, Teresina, which he uses as his artistic workplace. Raw and unpolished, the space reflects the city and the surrounding country, where everyday lives run up against powerful political tensions and a growing intolerance towards minorities and artists.

Soundscapes @KANAL

20/04/201921/04/2019

With Music For Documentaries, out on Hivern Discs, 2017, Lawrence Le Doux composed for the film "Storry Telling for Earthly Survival". He continues to experiment with movies soundtracks and compositions for specific environments. Now Kanal Centre Pompidou sets a new chalenge: what part can sound play in such an environment, out of proportion, with his industrial past and contemporary art exhibitions.

Soundscapes @KANAL

21/04/201922/04/2019

After his well acclaimed soundtrack lp on Hivern Discs, Brussels based producer Lawrence Le Doux is returning to homebase Vlek for his next offering. And what a project it has become: Le Doux, heads first, dived deep into the Belgian national history of electronic music, and came up with a sampler covering the various fields the Belgians have explored over the last 30 years. From digi dub over simple drum computer house to one-man industrial cassettes: 'Host' has it all.

Wang Bing

Mi Niang

Since 2013, CINEMATEK has been defending the exceptional and unique oeuvre of Chinese documentary filmmaker Wang Bing. In December, we will show his latest film, Dead Souls (2018), which was also presented in Cannes. At the same time, in KANAL we present Wang’s  Mi Niang  , a film produced by CINEMATEK, that is shown for the first (and only) time. There, it enters into a dialogue with  Eight Chapters in Four Movements by Italian artist Teresa Cos: a confrontation of two temporal experiences.

Performing Art - Noé Soulier

22/03/201923/03/2019

Now that the body has increasingly entered museums, choreographer and philosopher Noé Soulier has chosen to explore the reverse movement: what if it was the artworks that adapted themselves to a new space instead of the body? In Performing Art, spectators observe 20 works of art from the collection of the Musée National d’Art Moderne-Centre Pompidou. Not by strolling through a museum, but from the comfort of their theatre seat. The actors are the technicians of the museum who unpack the artworks onstage according to a well-defined protocol.

Following the demolition of the Berlin Wall, Chantal Akerman captures the reality and mutation of the former Soviet states, shot from summer through to winter in a series of travelling or static shots. From East Germany to Moscow, passing through Poland, Lithuania and the Ukraine, she records the bodies and faces of the anonymous masses, either walking or, with closed faces, simply waiting for who knows what. She films buildings, landscapes, the snow or the night and offers a mass of visual and aural impressions, in a mesmerising, impressionistic poem.
