In parallel with the retrospective it devotes to the Argentine filmmaker Lisandro Alonso in November, CINEMATEK presents two films[S T1]  by visual artist Carlos Casas at Kanal: Soledad al fin del mundo and Patagonian Fieldworks. These documentary works, filmed in Patagonia, resonate with the snowy landscapes of the same region, splendidly pictured by  Alonso. In Kanal, the work of Carlos Casas is projected in a loop. It goes into dialogue with Rosa de Lima and Cargadores by French, Brussels-based, artist Joëlle de La Casinière.

I...Cognitive maps - Chapter 1 - Ely Daou

29/05/201931/05/2019

The architectural details – as they are remembered or perhaps transformed by the artist’s memory – become the starting points for re-entering both the spaces and the past. I...

FARMER TRAIN SWIRL - ÉTUDE

06/04/201907/04/2019

The origins of this new project by Cassiel Gaube can be found in his interest in street dance and house, which he has studied and performed. A precise interweaving of moves and steps allows him to compress a choreographic writing that opens up a poetic space and questions the essential act of the step. How can dance and architecture create a new kind of space together? During Performatik19, choreographer Radouan Mriziga will install a residency project at KANAL–Centre Pompidou.

Using Bauhaus as a pedagogical model, he seeks to establish a contemporary educational practice that reformulates the models of space. He is inviting dance and architecture students to share their knowledge and practice. Projecting the resulting questions onto the surrounding workspace will create a new way of thinking and feeling space.

MONUMENTAL

15/03/201917/03/2019

For several years, visual artist Jocelyn Cottencin has been conducting a reflection on form, image, signs and space through recurrent themes such as the group and the community.

For his projects he uses installations, film, graphic design, performances and the book. Quite logically, Monumental is a project that moves borders.

Monumental seeks to activate a visual and collective memory originating in representations of our history, in particular the history of art, or media and contemporary events.
