AFIELD Forum 2025
Transitional justice by Artists
27/05/2025 — 30/05/2025
After its first successful run in 2024, the AFIELD Forum returns to Brussels to explore the ways artists can help drive societal transformation. Following last year’s focus on systemic change, the 2025 forum invites participants to engage with the work and processes of transitional justice. This term refers to the processes that are used to address injustice and human rights violations, for instance after a war or the fall of a repressive regime. This can be achieved through court cases, truth commissions, reparations programmes, institutional reforms … and art.

A Invenção da Maldade - Marcelo Evelin
10/05/2019 — 11/05/2019
Brazilian choreographer, researcher and performer Marcelo Evelin is a prominent name in the field of contemporary dance. His latest creation came into being in a former warehouse in his hometown, Teresina, which he uses as his artistic workplace. Raw and unpolished, the space reflects the city and the surrounding country, where everyday lives run up against powerful political tensions and a growing intolerance towards minorities and artists.

Projecting Congo
15/03/2024
Congolese rumba and Lumumba as an international icon of resistance are some of the best-known examples of the Congolese addition to pan-African thought. However, the country’s contributions to feminism and quilombismo, an emancipatory philosophy that originated in Afro-Brazilian communities, are less recognized. This one-day conference explores how all these artistic and intellectual productions born in the wake of pan-African ideas have travelled to and from Central Africa; how it resonates with the present and shapes new futures. Together, these discussions propose a renewed outlook upon the relationship between Panafricanism, arts and archives from a Congo's perspective.
