Workshop
Free School
13/05/2022 — 15/05/2022
For several years the Free School has been a central project of the festival. It is a space to imagine new ways of thinking together through artistic practice; a temporary school in which we experiment, produce, and transmit knowledge together.
This edition of the Free School explores a discipline as specific as it is complex: music. More than just an art form, music has always been a meeting place and – in its possible messages and essential structure – a way of thinking.

How can young people help determine the (future of the) city and how can their voices be translated into policy? What quick interventions are possible to make the city more accessible and inclusive?

In a time of global crises, how can contemporary cinematic practices align with and support political imaginations striving for social justice and antifascist liberation? How do they help us rehearse these imaginations?
Cinema as Assembly is a three-day study circle that invites the public to come together – as an audience, as thinkers and as makers – to explore cinema’s potential as both a method and medium that can help rehearse collective organisation, militant imagination and liberatory transformation.

Book launch
toutes celles qui brillent
23/05/2024
13 women came together to forge bonds, to make objects and photographs, to put words on both personal and universal feelings. They also gave themselves a name: KALAM, which means 'words' in Arabic. Words they deploy to exchange thoughts about their presence in Brussels, words with which they storm the public space. Even without legal documents, they have the strength to stand up, to transcend themselves, to fight back. And it is so that they shine. With a glow that addresses oppression, but also that of joy that endures.

Transitional justice by Artists
27/05/2025 — 30/05/2025
After its first successful run in 2024, the AFIELD Forum returns to Brussels to explore the ways artists can help drive societal transformation. Following last year’s focus on systemic change, the 2025 forum invites participants to engage with the work and processes of transitional justice. This term refers to the processes that are used to address injustice and human rights violations, for instance after a war or the fall of a repressive regime. This can be achieved through court cases, truth commissions, reparations programmes, institutional reforms … and art.

Symposium
SCAFFOLDS
22/11/2018
23/11/2018
Scaffolds and 'Being with Pedagogy' are two events organized in synergy, providing the chance to link an academic event with a day of lectures and discussion open to the broader public.
The symposium aims at creating a place for sharing and discussion on research in architecture and urbanism, artistic practice and studio pedagogy.
It does so by reflecting upon epistemological and cognitive strategies and tools used in understanding and shaping our space, from the immediate human body and its extensions to the territory.
