24/09/202025/09/2020

It was in Brussels, in October 2013, that Charlemagne Palestine and Eric Thielemans first met, during a residency organized by Ateliers Claus which also involved the Finnish electronic musician Mika Vainio (1963-2017), from the legendary duo Pan Sonic. The music composed over these four days, subsequently released on Charlemagne Palestine’s Godbear label is at the root of this performance, Palestine and Thielemans today being accompanied by guitarist Oren Ambarchi.

Mon réveil me réveille (2017)

Our day starts as soon as we wake up and lasts until we fall asleep. These two extremes align the primal unity of our lifetime. The idea of realizing these two ends in a short lapse of time and of questioning the act of awaking from sleep as an artificial force is the inspiration behind this work.

To indicate the process of time and to ritualize everday movements, this living installation creates a situation in which an artist sleeps with an alarm clock until she is woken by the alarm, repeatedly.

In PROTESTENCIL the public compose and print their own poster using the high impact stencils created by Teresa Sdralevich. Bold and simple images, inspiring words and abstract forms come together in never ending combinations, transforming participants into instant designers. In IMPRIMERUE // DRUKKER STRAAT she applies the same principle, but this time uses the street’s surface as the base on which to print.

ALL AROUND

21/03/201923/03/2019

Drummer Will Guthrie and choreographer/dancer Mette Ingvartsen have been following each other’s work and collaborating at a distance over the past 5 years.

In this drum/dance duo they perform live together for the first time, bringing their respective disciplines into close proximity. The result is a fusion of forms: a music concert with dance. In All Around the audience encircles a performance space occupied by a drum kit, a moving light and the performers' bodies.

Free School

13/05/202215/05/2022

For several years the Free School has been a central project of the festival. It is a space to imagine new ways of thinking together through artistic practice; a temporary school in which we experiment, produce, and transmit knowledge together.

This edition of the Free School explores a discipline as specific as it is complex: music. More than just an art form, music has always been a meeting place and – in its possible messages and essential structure – a way of thinking.
