What memory should we retain from contemporary art ? And how ? Making a public art collection could be un answer to these questions. Besides the Centre Pompidou collection the visitor can also discover young Belgians artists. They have been selected by a committee to set the basis of Kanal’s own collection of contemporary art.
Art is(t) talk makes these artists and Art historians meet an discuss the importance of contemporary art in our societies. Art is(t) Talk is organised in partnership with ULB and VUB.

Teresa Sdralevich
Protestencil & Imprimerue - Drukker Straat
12/07/2021 — 13/07/2021
18/07/2021 — 19/07/2021
21/07/2021 — 22/07/2021
In PROTESTENCIL the public compose and print their own poster using the high impact stencils created by Teresa Sdralevich. Bold and simple images, inspiring words and abstract forms come together in never ending combinations, transforming participants into instant designers. In IMPRIMERUE // DRUKKER STRAAT she applies the same principle, but this time uses the street’s surface as the base on which to print.

JEANNE COLIN & KILLIAN MADELEINE - Reception
Day of the dance
27/04/2019 — 28/04/2019
In every sculpture and every monument there is an attempt to capture our convictions for eternity. And yet even stone erodes. What does a truth need to remain valid? In their sensitive duet Jeanne Colin and Killian Madeleine go in search of an anchorage – in themselves and in each other. Their stability is constantly put to the test by the soft clay floor on which they move. An ode to the fragility and strength of the body.

EDOUARD CABAY
THIRD DEVIATION
21/06/2019 — 30/06/2019
Edouard Cabay's research focuses on issues related to digital culture and manufacturing processes - crossing the fields of the immaterial and the physical through an incessant intermingling of these two fields, to produce strange constructions "concretely concrete" although governed by the abstract laws of computational computing, the purpose of which is, however, to shape realizations that are part of the Euclidean space-time of our materialist contemporaneity (...) etc.

Following the demolition of the Berlin Wall, Chantal Akerman captures the reality and mutation of the former Soviet states, shot from summer through to winter in a series of travelling or static shots. From East Germany to Moscow, passing through Poland, Lithuania and the Ukraine, she records the bodies and faces of the anonymous masses, either walking or, with closed faces, simply waiting for who knows what. She films buildings, landscapes, the snow or the night and offers a mass of visual and aural impressions, in a mesmerising, impressionistic poem.
