What else can be said about migratory phenomena and their consequences in terms of aesthetics, production, and distribution processes? These are just a few of the questions that will be looked at through an anti-racist, anti-sexist and anti-classist prism.

A Invenção da Maldade - Marcelo Evelin

10/05/201911/05/2019

Brazilian choreographer, researcher and performer Marcelo Evelin is a prominent name in the field of contemporary dance. His latest creation came into being in a former warehouse in his hometown, Teresina, which he uses as his artistic workplace. Raw and unpolished, the space reflects the city and the surrounding country, where everyday lives run up against powerful political tensions and a growing intolerance towards minorities and artists.

A carillon, transformed into a sculpture by artist Charlemagne Palestine, has adorned the ground floor of KANAL since September. The intention was to play this beautiful instrument on a regular basis. For an indoor live audience this is no longer possible for the time being. But a carillon cannot be confined! From 22 November, KANAL will present a series of 5 concerts. If you live near Sainctelette Square in Brussels or happen to pass by, you can also simply open the window or your ears and enjoy the sound of the bells ringing out over the city.

Following the demolition of the Berlin Wall, Chantal Akerman captures the reality and mutation of the former Soviet states, shot from summer through to winter in a series of travelling or static shots. From East Germany to Moscow, passing through Poland, Lithuania and the Ukraine, she records the bodies and faces of the anonymous masses, either walking or, with closed faces, simply waiting for who knows what. She films buildings, landscapes, the snow or the night and offers a mass of visual and aural impressions, in a mesmerising, impressionistic poem.

LOIE FULLER : Research

16/06/201817/06/2018

In Loie Fuller: Research, Ola Maciejewska continues to research the historic figure of dance.

She explores the famous costume specific to the serpentine dances of Loïe Fuller, the power of non-human objects in contact with bodies. With such a postiion, she proposes to step outside anthropocentrism, where like a sculptor with her Pygmalion, she lets herself be bowled over by the object, or rather by what emerges from this bilateral relation.
